What’s an Hour of Your Time Worth?

Category : Family, Perspective, Relationships

I heard this great story and wanted to share it with you today.

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door.

“Daddy, may I ask you a question?”, asked the little boy.

“Yeah sure, what it is?”, replied the man.

“Daddy, how much do you make an hour?”

“That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?”, the man said angrily.

“I just want to know.. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?”

“If you must know, I make $20.00 an hour.”

“Oh”, the little boy replied, with his head down. “Daddy, may I please borrow $10.00?”

The father was furious, “If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I don’t work hard everyday to come home to such childish behavior.”

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man calmed down and started to think:

“Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $10.00 and he doesn’t ask for money very often.”

The man went to the little boy’s room and opened the door.

“Are you asleep, son?”, He asked.

“No daddy, I’m awake”, replied the boy.

“I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier”, said the man. “‘It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the $10.00 you asked for.”

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. “Oh, thank you Daddy!” He yelled.

Then, reaching under his pillow the boy pulled out some crumpled up bills.

The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.

“Why do you want more money if you already have some?” the father grumbled.

“Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do.”

The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father. “Daddy, I have $20.00 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Would you please come home early tomorrow.. I would like to have dinner with you.”

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.

This is just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life and your business.

We shouldn’t let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts..

86,400 a day! How would you spend it?

Category : Choice

My lovely wife Tianne shared this with me and I just had to share it with all of you!

Imagine that you had won the following prize in a contest:

Each morning your bank would deposit $86,400.00 in your private account for your use.

However, this prize comes with conditions, just as anything in life.

The first set of rules are:

Whatever you didn’t spend each day, you would lose.

You are not allowed to transfer the money to a different account to save it.

You may only spend it.

Each morning, the bank opens your account with another $86,400.00 for that day.

The second set of rules are:

The bank can end the game without warning; at any time it can say, the game is over!

Your account will be closed and you will not receive any more money.

————-

So what would you do? How would you spend your money each day.

Would you buy anything and everything you ever wanted?

Not only for yourself, but for all the people you love, right?

Even for people you don’t know, because you couldn’t possibly spend it all on yourself after the first few days, right?

You would try to spend every cent, and use it all!

————-
Now for Some Reality

Actually, this GAME is similar to what we already have!

Each of us is in possession of such a magical bank. Sometimes, we just can’t see its true value.

The priceless magic this bank holds is… TIME!

Each morning we awaken to receive 86,400 seconds of life, and when we go to sleep at night, any remaining time is NOT credited to us.

The time that we waste without truly living during that day is forever lost.

Yesterday is gone.

The beauty is that each morning the account is refilled, but the tragedy is that the bank can dissolve your account at any time….WITHOUT WARNING.

SO, what will YOU do with your 86,400 seconds?

Aren’t they worth so much more than the same amount in dollars?

Think about it. Time is the only thing that is truly equal for us all. The difference is how we use that time.

Make every minute of your life count, because time is precious to all.
