I Cried So Hard I Couldn’t Drive!

Category : Breakthrough, Responsibility, Service, Value

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about why I use Mentoring for Free, so I thought I’d take a few minutes and share my reasons.

When I started with Mentoring For Free, I thought I knew what it was all about. But there’s a big difference between knowing and “KNOWING”. Let me explain.

I’ve been following the system or “recipe” as outlined by my Mentor Emmanuel Padilla to generate leads and calling them, plugging them into the system, Scheduling Coaching Calls, etc.

Works beautifully.

Well, a strange thing happened a few months ago. I received a “Why” from a young lady. It was beautiful. Heartfelt. Sincere. And all of a sudden I was crying. I was out at the time and I cried the whole drive home. I’m surprised that I didn’t get into an accident. I could barely see.

I didn’t necessarily cry over what she wrote, I cried because I realized that these aren’t “Leads” or “Prospects”, they’re living, breathing People with hopes and dreams and goals and desires. And they’re trusting ME to help them. They’re sharing deep personal feelings with me. I am humbled to say the least.

And then it hit me. What an awesome responsibility that we have to these people! This is not a game. Mentoring For Free is not just a lead generating system. It’s not just training. It’s a way to serve. It’s a way to connect with people on a different level. I mean, you can even say it’s a salvation. At least for some people it is.

What’s so exciting about this, is the fact that once it “hit me” everything changed. It’s no longer about getting leads. It’s about giving and sharing what I know, what we know, to help another human being fulfill their dreams. What could be better than that? The feeling I get when someone has success with a technique I’ve shown them or even the feeling of hope that arises when a person realizes there is someone out there willing to take the time to help them. It’s amazing!

What’s funny, is it seems like the Universe has noticed and said “He finally gets it” and I have more people coming to me asking for help than I did before. It’s like the universe said “He’s ready, let’s give him some people to help.”

I mean, I’ve changed nothing in my actions. I do the same things I did from the beginning. And people are “showing up” asking for help.

I don’t know how I can ever express my gratitude to Michael Dlouhy for developing Mentoring For Free and sharing it with the world. I’m only touched by a small part of it within my own circle of influence. I can’t begin to imagine how he must feel, helping as many people as he does. How does his heart not burst from the joy?

So I want to send a public thank you to Michael Dlouhy from the bottom of my heart for allowing me the opportunity to “get it”. My life has forever been changed for the better.

Make a Pain List and Check It… Often!

Category : Motivation

Are you familiar with Anthony Robbins’ Personal Power program? If not, you should check it out. I recently dusted it off and started listening to it again.

In the program he talks a lot about the Pleasure – Pain principle. Basically it’s all about how people will do more to avoid pain then they ever will to get pleasure. Like for example, if there is something that we know we need to do, but keep avoiding doing that thing, it means that the pain we associate with doing it is stronger than the pleasure we would get if we did it. So we don’t do it. But, after awhile, an interesting thing happens. The pain associated with NOT doing it, becomes so strong that we end up doing it after all.

This has me thinking about how this applies to Network Marketing and our businesses in general.

For the most part, when we think of what Network Marketing can provide us, we think of all the Pleasure things, like having more money, taking vacations, owning our lives, helping other people and having all the toys we’ve always wanted.

I’ve studied a lot of the leaders on our industry and found that, while all those things are nice and were part of the drive that caused them to be able to have those things, the real reason behind that drive and focus was all the pain of NOT having those things. The pain of working for someone else, the pain of seeing their kids stuck in daycare, the pain of constently stuggling to pay their bills and the pain of seeing others succeed who were really no more talented, educated or lucky than they were.

It’s the pain that drove them.

That’s what I think is sometimes missing from those that aren’t succeeding with their business. They haven’t associated enough pain to NOT succeeding.

One of the things I always encourage members of my team to do is to figure out their “Why” and most people’s “Why” is something like making more money, or give to charity, or stop working at a job. While all those things are great, I believe they aren’t enough to really motivate them. I can instantly tell a person’s committment level based upon their “Why”.

I’ve received some really powerful ones. Ones that have made ME cry. Those are usually the people that see success.

What I’m suggesting here is that those with the most pain associated with not succeeding are actually more likely to succeed than those that just focus on the pleasure success will bring them.

So what should we do to find that pain? Ha ha, I never thought I’d want people to find and focus on pain, but this is very important.

Make a list.

Write down all the reasons why you MUST NOT FAIL.
Write down all the things that are painful about where you are right now.
Write down all the things you will not settle for.
Write down all the things that will happen if you don’t succeed in your business.
Write down all the names of the people who say you can’t do it, and along side those names, write what they’ve said to you.

I believe that once you have this list and review it daily, it can be just as important as your list of goals. The goal is what you want. The “Pain List” is what will drive you there.

So don’t wait, go make your pain list. Think of how much it will hurt you if you don’t.

My Dreams are Not Yours to Take!

Category : Breakthrough

You’re always telling me that my dreams will never come true.

You’re always telling me That my decisions are stupid and a waste of time.

You’re always putting down my successes as temporary or meaningless.

You’re always trying to scare me out of doing important things.

You’re always trying to convince me my goals are too hard and unachievable.

You’re always giving me hundreds of reasons why I will fail.

You’re always trying to convince me that success is for other people. That I’m not worthy.

You’re always trying to distract me from doing things I need to do by enticing me to do other fun stuff.

You’re always trying to make me put things off until they are too late.

You’re always putting me down.

You’re always telling me to stay on the safe path and not take chances.

You know what?

I’m through with you! I’m not listening to you any longer!

This is MY life, not yours! I make the decisions, not you!

You don’t control my life!!

My dreams will come true!
My decisions aren’t stupid!
My successes are lasting and forever!
I will do the important things in spite of you!
My goals are achievable and I will attain them!
I WILL NOT fail. I refuse to!
I am worthy of success! I was born with the right!
I will not be distracted by meaningless things!
I will not procrastinate any longer!
I will not let you put me down. I deserve better!
I will not stay on the safe path. I want to grow, and unless I try new things, I will always stay the same!

From this day forward I control my thoughts, my actions and my future!

From this day forward I will be who I was meant to be.

So get out of my way and leave me alone! You will no longer hold me hostage!!!

This is a letter I wrote to myself, more specifically to my fear. Since that day, amazing things have happened and I’ve grown and succeeded beyond my wildest dreams.

Don’t let your fears control you. You deserve everything this life has to offer. Just think about what you would do if you weren’t afraid. You’ll amaze yourself!

Goals & Goal Setting – Teachings From Jim Rohn

Category : Goals

Goals & Goal Setting

The major reason for setting a goal is for what it makes of you to accomplish it. What it makes of you will always be the far greater value than what you get.

When Andrew Carnegie died, they discovered a sheet of paper upon which he had written one of the major goals of his life: to spend the first half of his life accumulating money and to spend the last half of his life giving it all away. And he did!

Some people are disturbed by those tough days because all they have is the days. They haven’t designed or described or defined the future.

Goals. There’s no telling what you can do when you get inspired by them. There’s no telling what you can do when you believe in them. And there’s no telling what will happen when you act upon them.

We all need lots of powerful long-range goals to help us past the short-term obstacles.

The ultimate reason for setting goals is to entice you to become the person it takes to achieve them.

Don’t set your goals too low. If you don’t need much, you won’t become much.

If you go to work on your goals, your goals will go to work on you. If you go to work on your plan, your plan will go to work on you. Whatever good things we build end up building us.

We all have two choices: We can make a living or we can design a life.

7 Steps To Achieving Your Goals

Category : Goals

How important is goal setting?

You can’t hit a target you can’t see… or arrive at the right place when you don’t know where you’re going.

Your goals determine how successful, or unsuccessful, you will be in life.

In fact, through my research I’ve found that all top business people and self-made millionaires have very detailed goals-while those stuck barely scraping by have vague dreams or wishes.

The problem is, most people set goals – which they never achieve.

Why? What is the difference between people who set goals and reach them, and the people who set goals and never come close?

I see a few differences:

  1. You’ve got to have a really big dream, one that totally captures your imagination, that truly inspires you.

  2. Choose a model, someone who has done what you want to do. Study every aspect of that person, their skills, their resources, and what they have achieved, so you understand what it takes.

  3. Write down every detail of that dream, no matter how trivial it may seem. The more detail you can picture in your mind, the closer you get to your dream becoming reality.

  4. Spend time each day picturing your exact dream. After you have built your dream picture, it doesn’t take but 3-5 minutes a day to focus completely on it. That action will drive you to your dream’s achievement.

  5. Focus every action in your day on making some part of your dream a reality.

  6. Wherever fear or doubt enter the picture, step right into them. Do whatever it is you fear, over and over, so it no longer looms as a stop on your dream.

  7. Never ever ever quit.

I have personally found these steps to be very effective.

Here is a program that I’ve gone through that has helped me tremendously. I highly recommend it. It’s called The Science of Self-Confidence – How to Build Rock Solid Self-Confidence and Achieve All of Your Goals, by Brian Tracy.

Think of all the things you could do if you enjoyed super levels of self-confidence… your career would be booming, offers would be flying your way, everyone would want to be with you. You would have more opportunities to find that “special someone.” By using the ideas in The Science of Self-Confidence, everything becomes possible. Your belief in your ability to succeed in all areas of life becomes unshakable. Your life will never be the same, once you learn to practice The Science of Self-Confidence.

Brian Tracy has studied, researched, written and spoken for 30 years in the fields of economics, history, business, philosophy and psychology. He is the top selling author of over 45 books that have been translated into dozens of languages. He’ll help you as he’s helped me.

Tips To Avoid The Home-Based Business Family Mutiny

Category : Family

I was talking today to a business partner of mine about the stress of running a Home-Based Business and still finding the time to spend with our loved ones. It’s sometimes a high wire act we have to go through to balance everything and make everyone happy.

This is especially true when you’re first starting out. You can never find enough time to do the business, especially when you have a full time job to go along with it.

Branding, Networking, Blogging, Tweeting, Posting, Learning, Teaching and Presenting take a lot of time out of our day. So where do we find the time to devote to our family?

A lot of people make the mistake thinking that their spouse/partner, kids, pets and friends will understand the devotion we have to make to the business, but in reality, it’s not an easy thing for them to understand. As it is with most things, the excitement and motivation wears off after time. Then throw in the fact that very few of us make any worthwhile money for the first year or so, it’s easy to understand how the tension can build up in the family. The support for the venture soon turns to animosity, jealousy and eventually mutiny. I see it happening every day.

So how do we combat this? How do we continue to get the support from the family?

Some of the things I’ve personally done, and learned from my Mentors is that you have to schedule time with your family and take a couple days off from your Home-Based Business regularly.

I, for example devote Sundays to my family. I very rarely do work on Sunday (that is unless I’m up early and everyone else is sleeping in. sssshhhh, don’t tell my wife). I also schedule every other Thursday as Date Night, where we get a babysitter and just my wife and I go out to dinner and a movie. We use that time to reconnect. I also drive my wife to work 3 days a week so we can at least spend time talking about whatever is on our minds. Sometimes it’s about her work, or the business or whatever is on our minds.

Another key thing that I’ve done is to dream with my family. What I mean is that we talk about our dreams and set goals for things we want to do or want to have. My theory is that if everyone is on the same page as far as where we want to end up, it makes the time sacrifice a little easier to bear.

For example, we love to travel, so we’ve set vacation goals and planned vacations that at this time we can’t afford, so it gives us a common goal to work towards. My son wants to go to Egypt and see the Pyramids before his Passport expires in 4 years. We’ve also set a goal to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro together on the same trip. Since he knows that this won’t happen unless my business takes off, he’s more understanding. Another goal we have is for my wife to be able to retire by the end of this year, so whenever she hints that I need to take a break, I remind her that I’m working towards HER retirement. ha ha

My point with all this is that you have to include your family in your plans and dreams, or they’ll feel disconnected from you. And if that happens, your Home-Based Business will become more of a chore than a path to freedom.

And that’s why we’re doing this in the first place isn’t it? So that one day in the near future we’re successful enough to work our way out of the business and live off the royalties.

So put your family first or at least a close second. Otherwise, you may end up dreaming alone.

Managing Expectations

Category : Persistance

Let me start off by saying that I came into Network Marketing with very high expectations. My goals were pretty aggressive.

In order to know where I’m coming from here, I have to give you some history into my story.

You see, all my adult life I’ve been searching for something that was going to save me from the life of a worker bee. And I tried a lot of different things with pretty much no success. I had set a lot of goals, but never reached them. And the reason I never reached them was because I really didn’t put much effort into making them happen. So when the goal was unmet, I was disappointed, but not surprised. I really couldn’t blame anyone but me and my lack of effort.

I hit a turning point in my life last year. My oldest son who was just starting his working life and being out on his own, ran into some financial problems. And it made me mad. Not because he wasn’t managing his money well, but because he was living that life of complacently and lack that I’ve lived with my entire life. And I was mad because he wasn’t listening to me. All HIS life I tried to teach him how to stay out of the rat race and to think the right thoughts and do the right things. But it wasn’t happening, and I was like “Why isn’t he listening to me?”

Then I realized that he wasn’t listening to me because he had no frame of reference. I was telling him NOT to be like me. Not to do the things I was doing. Who’s going to listen to that? Especially a Twenty Something kid just starting his life?

So I decided that if I was going to be a role model to my own kids, I had better start doing the things I had been preaching to them their whole life. Because what I was doing wasn’t working, not for me and not for them.

So I finally broke down and asked for help from my friend Emmanuel Padilla. He was building a Network Marketing organization for awhile, but he never pushed me into it. I told him right from the start that Network Marketing wasn’t an option for me. I didn’t understand it, and had those “Pyramid Scheme” thoughts in my head. But I decided that since what I’d been doing for the last 25 years hadn’t worked, I’d do something different. I’d do everything different.

So I studied and learned all I could and joined a Network Marketing company. Being a green personality, it wasn’t easy at first. A small example of what I mean is, before all this started. I couldn’t pick up the phone to order a pizza. I would get into so many fights with my wife about that. She didn’t understand why I was so fearful of the phone. But since I decided to change everything, in less than a month I was making my own calls. Huge difference.

I pushed myself out of my comfort zone, and stopped doing the things that were comfortable for me. Like falling into that analysis paralysis that us green personalities fall into. I refrained from reinventing the wheel and just followed the system laid out for me. I stopped waiting until things were perfect and just went out and applied massive action to everything I did.

It worked great at first, but then I started getting a bit depressed because things weren’t happening as fast as I’d thought they should. Remember, I was used to not meeting my goals… So doubt started creeping in. I did a total shift from what I was doing, and I was getting the same results.

So I started asking myself disempowering questions. Was I doing enough? Was I doing something wrong? Was something missing? Does the system really work?

And I talked to all my mentors. Well I wouldn’t say talked, I more whined than anything else. Sorry Emmanuel.

After talking/whining to everyone and sitting down to evaluate and take a hard look at what was happening, I came to this realization: None of the successes in my life have ever been instant successes. And I can say with a good deal of certainty that this holds true for you too.

But.. when I looked back at the previous year, I can honestly say that I HAVE BEEN successful. I haven’t seen all the financial rewards I was expecting in the timeframe I was expecting them, but I’ve built a very solid foundation to work from. I’ve learned tons of new skills that I’m using every day to build that foundation, and I’ve done things and pushed myself beyond anything I would have ever imagined I could do. And now I can say that I’m on the verge of that explosion you hear about so often when everything clicks, and all the pieces fall into place.

One of my problems was that I used to measure myself by what another upline sponsor and mentor of mine, Marcello Lisi has done. He’s retired and has built a large successful team. You know, sometimes we set our expectations based on those who we want to be like, but we don’t take into consideration that success didn’t happen to them instantly either. We’re seeing the byproduct of all the hard work and time they’ve put into it. And in order to get that, we need to put the same amount of effort and duplicate what they did, and only THEN will we see the same kind of results.

The whole point I’m trying to make is that you can’t measure your success based on your expectations. Because to be honest, your expectations are nothing more than a prediction of what you THINK is going to happen in the future. And if you truly thought about it, and looked back on goals and expectations you’ve set and MET in the past, you’ll realize that 9 times out of 10, the path to that success was very different than how you thought it would go.

I believe the whole focus of a goal is that it’s not how fast you reach it, but that you do the things you need to do to actually reach it. If you do that, then you can’t help but be successful. Because the only way to fail is to quit. And I know if you’re taking the time read this, you want success, and you’re not a quitter.

So just stay focused and do those daily slight edge actions and success will be yours.

No matter how long it takes.
