The other day I was asked by a friend why I do Mentoring For Free. His biggest question was why help people who might never join my Network Marketing Team. Isn’t sponsoring people in your business the point of being in Network Marketing? Why not do one of those other systems where even if they don’t join your team, they join the “system” as an affiliate and you still make money.
Those are very good questions that I’m sure many others have. Heck, I even thought those same things when I was looking into it and trying to decide what system I would use to help me build my team.
I chose Mentoring For Free because of what it stands for. Their motto is, “We teach people HOW to think, not WHAT to think.” I wholeheartedly agree with that philosophy. One thing I’ve learned is the Truth is the Truth is the Truth.
A big part of Mentoring For Free is the education. We teach people the truth about Network Marketing and how and why things work or don’t work. We educate people about compensations plans, policies and procedures, marketing and advertising, but the most important thing of all is we teach people how to build relationships.
The main point that Michael Dlouhy stresses in his book Success in 10 Steps is that Network Marketing is not a Sales Business, it’s a Relationship Business. Almost 100% of the people out there are sales resistant, and if you have to sell them on joining your business, or buying your product today, you’ll have to sell them month after month. Who wants to do that? Why not build a relationship with them, which could turn into a partnership. Show them how to do this industry right, and even if they never join you, you’ve at least helped them out. You’ve shared the truth. You’ve educated them to make their own decisions and the best decision for them. Isn’t that worth a little bit of your time?
We know how the universe works, and Zig Ziglar said it best, “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.” So why not help people get what they want? Even if they don’t join you in your company? It all comes around to you eventually. But here’s the best part…. You’re building a relationship with that person. A friendship. And that’s worth more than money anyway. And who knows, in the future you might be in partnership with one another. We never know how these things work.
But I do know this, if you try to sell that person on your business, and pressure them to join you, and treat them like a number, even if they join you, they won’t stay. They won’t be able to make it work. And you lose both credibility and a possible friend. Not to mention any money you would have made with them also.
So let me ask you this, is that worth it? Does that even make sense? If so, I’d love to hear your theory on it, because I haven’t figured that out yet. Not sure if I ever will.
