I just read an article on Nielson’s blog site NielsonWire about how Social Networks/Blogs Now Account for One in Every Four and a Half Minutes Online.
Here’s and excerpt from the article:
The popularity of social media is undeniable – three of the world’s most popular brands online are social-media related (Facebook, YouTube and Wikipedia) and the world now spends over 110 billion minutes on social networks and blog sites. This equates to 22 percent of all time online or one in every four and half minutes. For the first time ever, social network or blog sites are visited by three quarters of global consumers who go online, after the numbers of people visiting these sites increased by 24% over last year. The average visitor spends 66% more time on these sites than a year ago, almost 6 hours in April 2010 versus 3 hours, 31 minutes last year.
This is a very interesting statistic for Network Marketers. I mean we all realize that a shift has occurred in what monopolizes our time, but what’s really cool is that this has opened the door for regular individuals to advertise and interact with our audience without having the high cost associated with Television advertising.
The key is to find the way to get a person’s attention some time during that 6 hours they spend online each day.
So let me ask you, are you branding yourself enough to stand out from the herd and get noticed? Are you someone that people would give up a few minutes playing Farmville or Mafia Wars to interact with? Is your message strong enough?
Some interesting questions to ponder…

Well, that little picture is called a Gravatar (Globally Recognized Avatar), and you need one if you leave comments or have a blog of your own. It should be part of your personal branding strategy.
People connect with pictures, and it’s very important that your picture is connected to EVERYTHING you do. Let others know who you are and what you look like. They are more apt to remember you if they can associate what you say with your picture.
So now, on to the good stuff! Setting up a Gravatar is very easy.
My very good friend Sharon Hartman created a great video training on how to set up a Gravatar.
If you would like to bypass the video, you can go to http://www.gravatar.com and follow the instructions there.
So hey, when you’re finished come back here and leave a comment for this article. I’d love to see your picture!
Happy Branding!
