Tips To Avoid The Home-Based Business Family Mutiny

Category : Family

I was talking today to a business partner of mine about the stress of running a Home-Based Business and still finding the time to spend with our loved ones. It’s sometimes a high wire act we have to go through to balance everything and make everyone happy.

This is especially true when you’re first starting out. You can never find enough time to do the business, especially when you have a full time job to go along with it.

Branding, Networking, Blogging, Tweeting, Posting, Learning, Teaching and Presenting take a lot of time out of our day. So where do we find the time to devote to our family?

A lot of people make the mistake thinking that their spouse/partner, kids, pets and friends will understand the devotion we have to make to the business, but in reality, it’s not an easy thing for them to understand. As it is with most things, the excitement and motivation wears off after time. Then throw in the fact that very few of us make any worthwhile money for the first year or so, it’s easy to understand how the tension can build up in the family. The support for the venture soon turns to animosity, jealousy and eventually mutiny. I see it happening every day.

So how do we combat this? How do we continue to get the support from the family?

Some of the things I’ve personally done, and learned from my Mentors is that you have to schedule time with your family and take a couple days off from your Home-Based Business regularly.

I, for example devote Sundays to my family. I very rarely do work on Sunday (that is unless I’m up early and everyone else is sleeping in. sssshhhh, don’t tell my wife). I also schedule every other Thursday as Date Night, where we get a babysitter and just my wife and I go out to dinner and a movie. We use that time to reconnect. I also drive my wife to work 3 days a week so we can at least spend time talking about whatever is on our minds. Sometimes it’s about her work, or the business or whatever is on our minds.

Another key thing that I’ve done is to dream with my family. What I mean is that we talk about our dreams and set goals for things we want to do or want to have. My theory is that if everyone is on the same page as far as where we want to end up, it makes the time sacrifice a little easier to bear.

For example, we love to travel, so we’ve set vacation goals and planned vacations that at this time we can’t afford, so it gives us a common goal to work towards. My son wants to go to Egypt and see the Pyramids before his Passport expires in 4 years. We’ve also set a goal to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro together on the same trip. Since he knows that this won’t happen unless my business takes off, he’s more understanding. Another goal we have is for my wife to be able to retire by the end of this year, so whenever she hints that I need to take a break, I remind her that I’m working towards HER retirement. ha ha

My point with all this is that you have to include your family in your plans and dreams, or they’ll feel disconnected from you. And if that happens, your Home-Based Business will become more of a chore than a path to freedom.

And that’s why we’re doing this in the first place isn’t it? So that one day in the near future we’re successful enough to work our way out of the business and live off the royalties.

So put your family first or at least a close second. Otherwise, you may end up dreaming alone.

God Wants You To Believe In Yourself!

Category : Belief

I spoke to a lady recently who was struggling in life and in her business. During our conversation, something she told me really made me angry and sad.

She told me that all her life she’s struggled financially, and that she believes that this is the way her life is supposed to be. She said she’s realized that she will always struggle and always be poor because God wants her to be that way.

I was blown away by that statement! It’s so, so sad! Even sadder, is the fact that a lot of other people feel this way also!

It breaks my heart!

Now, I know this is going to raise some controversy, but I have to speak my mind here. I’m sorry if this offends anyone in any way, but let’s get real here.

Why on earth would God want someone to struggle? Seriously? This is a big issue that I have. My belief is that God is good. God wants us to have everything we’ve ever wanted. God is love. He doesn’t want anyone to struggle and I don’t believe it for a minute that he wishes any ill will upon anyone. And if you really think about it, that’s what it would be like. God doesn’t pick you out of a lineup and say, “John Doe’s life is destined to be a failure, because I wish it so!” What kind of a Loving God would do that?

I’ve even heard some people say it’s a test. A test for what? To see if you believe or love God?

That’s like saying I’m going to lock my kid in his room and deprive him of everything good to test how strongly he loves me and believes in me.. Seriously? Does that make sense to you? If it does, I’m so sorry, because that’s just plain idiotic.

Wouldn’t it make more sense for me to give my son every opportunity to succeed, show him success, show him love, show him that he can do anything he wants? Wouldn’t that be a better way of gaining his love and belief in me?

Now, it’s great to believe that God has a hand in our everyday lives, but honestly, and here’s where the controversy is going to start, I think most people use God as an excuse. If their life is crap, they blame God. God must want them to suffer. If their life is good, they give credit to God, because he made this happen.

I’m sorry, but YOU make it happen! YOU make the suffering. YOU make the success. It’s because YOU believed one way or another, be it in God or yourself, that caused whatever situation to happen. You see, don’t get me wrong here. I believe in God, but I believe God leaves it up to US to fail or succeed. It’s called free will, and if you’ve read the bible at all, you know that’s the basis of everything we are.

God gave us the ability to control our own lives. To believe what we want, when we want. The whole point is belief. If you believe something strongly enough, you’ll make it happen whether your belief is in God, a rock in your pocket, a family member or whatever. And if you believe that you will fail, you most definitely will.

STOP using God as an excuse for your failure! You’ve failed because you’ve let yourself fail. You’ve suffered because you’ve made yourself suffer.

If you want success, start doing things different from what you’ve been doing. Follow people who are getting the results you want. Learn all you can about success and how to attain it. And don’t give up until you get there.

You’ll never succeed unless you believe you can and stop using God as the reason you’re not.

To Do Or Not To Do, That Is The Question

Category : Persistance

Have you ever had one of those days where you didn’t feel like building your business? Where you didn’t feel like making the calls? Didn’t feel like going out to talk to people? Didn’t feel like promoting, sharing, branding?

I’ve been there, we all have. But here’s why I bring it up. You need to stop it, because it’s one of the reasons you’re not succeeding as well as you could be.

You see, this little “secret” is why the big money makers in Network Marketing are successful. They don’t use the excuse of not feeling like it when it comes to doing the daily tasks to build their business. They just do it.

Remember the quote, Successful people do the things that unsuccessful people won’t.

The next time you don’t feel like it, just make yourself do it anyway. You’ll feel much better for doing it, and you’ll train yourself to continue to do it every day.

If you want success, you need to be willing to do the things you don’t want to do and do them consistently. It’s not rocket science here. It’s common sense.

Here’s a little exercise to do every day. In the morning, after you spend some time in Gratitude (see a previous article of mine on gratitude), ask yourself this question: What can I do today to move my business forward?

And here’s the key? DO IT! Thinking about it doesn’t accomplish anything. Just do it!

Then, at the end of your day, ask yourself this question: What did I do today to move my business forward?

If you have the same answer at the end of the day that you had at the beginning, you’ve had a successful day.

So what the heck are you waiting for? Go do the deed!!

How Bad Do You Want Success?

Category : Success

There comes a time in your life when you have to put up or shut up. If you want success, whatever that may mean to you, then you have to stop saying you’re going to do something about it and get out there and do it.

For more years than I can count I wanted success, I prayed for success, I filled my mind with success. But I never took action toward success. So naturally, I never saw any success.

It wasn’t until I stopped hoping and wishing for success to find me and went out and did whatever it took to find it.

I sacrificed, I gave of myself, I changed everything. It’s taken a lot. It’s been frustrating. But do you want to know something? I’m seeing success. Because I was willing to do whatever I needed to do to get it. And I shifted my mentality to care about other people’s success more than mine. Because if they succeed, I succeed, because it’s no longer about me and my success, it’s about theirs.

Once I made that shift, the universe opened up to me. It has been the most amazing thing I’ve ever been a part of.

So what are you doing to be successful? How bad do you want success? Are you totally committed? Are you willing to give everything you have?

I hope so, because your success matters. It matters to you, it matters to me, and it matters to the universe.

Prove it to the universe. Prove it to yourself.

Is There Value In Your System, Or A System In Your Value?

Category : Value

Would it be ok if I asked you some questions?

What value did you give today?

Was it value without an agenda?

Did you give it just for the sake of helping someone out?

I ask these questions because I was called out today by someone wondering what the hell I was doing.

As everybody knows, or at least I figure they know, I use Mentoring for Free as my “system” to generate leads online and to train people in Network Marketing. It’s a great tool and it’s worked well for me.

But, and it’s a huge but, I realize that it’s not the only system out there. There are quite a few top notch systems people use every day to help them get leads and to help others succeed.

Well, today I promoted a TeleSeminar by a mentor of mine who just so happens to NOT be in Mentoring for Free. Maybe you’ve heard of him. His name is John Milton Fogg. He’s written a few books on Network Marketing, most notably The Greatest Networker in the World (awesome book by the way).

Anyway, as I was saying, he held a TeleSeminar today with another awesome Network Marketer and Internet Guru Bob Yeager. (I’ll spare you the intro on Bob, just Google him and you’ll see what I mean.)

Well, this TeleSeminar was pretty awesome, and I’m so glad that I could share it with my Facebook Group and my downline, because Bob gave so much value.

Now of course there are reasons why people do TeleSeminars, it’s to offer that value, but yet ultimately to promote what they happen to offer. So of course, for Bob it was to promote his system of Mentorship, and John’s promotion was that hopefully if you gained value from this TeleSeminar, you’d opt to want to join in on more, at which he will provide them as long as you’re a member of his Charter Membership on his website.

So now we come to the person calling me out tonight. He said I was an idiot for doing what I did, because I just gave away all those potential leads to a competitor, because they might think that Bob’s system is better than mine.

WTF?? You see, right there is where I think a lot of people really have it totally wrong. That person has a mentality of Lack. A lot of us do. We think that we need to hoard everyone we meet and get them to follow our system before someone takes them away!

Well, I’m here to tell you that that way of thinking is going to KEEP you in the Lack Mentality. You have to understand that there is more than enough for us out there. The Universe is constantly providing. There is no lack of anything. I heard that there are 1000s of new users coming onto the internet every day. And with the way the economy is going, there are more Network Marketers out there than ever before in the history of Network Marketing. COMBINED!

So where is the lack? Where is the competition? I mean seriously, you have to be pretty close minded to think that there is one system that fits everyone. Not Mentoring for Free, not MLSP, not the 7 Figure Networker, not the Million Mind March, not Mike Dillard’s Magnetic Sponsoring, etc.

Not one will fit all.

Each and every one of those systems are a personal choice. And you can blow smoke all you want, but the fact is, there isn’t one that is that much better than the others. They are all designed to help people market on the internet and generate leads.

And if you’re a actual mentor who has the best interest of whoever you meet, and truly are out for their success, you won’t think that your system is the only system for them. Because honestly, even though it’s the system they follow, they follow it because they trust YOU. It’s about you. If someone feels you’re not out for their best interest, I don’t care how great the system you use is, they will not follow you.

The whole point is to provide value and to help other Network Marketers succeed. If referring them to another system that would better suit their needs is what is best for them, then by all means do it. There will be others. There are enough out there. The Lack Mentality leads to desperation, and desperation leads to failure.

Once you figure that out, your life and career will surely get better.
