How To Avoid the Network Marketing Reset Button

Category : Education

The other day I was sitting in my son’s room watching him play a video game he bought a couple weeks earlier. The game was interesting. The “hero” had to go through a series of challenges to gain experience to eventually fight this huge creature that no human in real life could ever dream of defeating. The game itself wasn’t as much interesting as how my son was playing it. There was this one particular “boss” that he just could not beat. He explained that he had been trying to beat him for over a week and just couldn’t do it.

As I watched him play, he would start the game, build up experience, and then go fight the boss, sometimes.
I say sometimes because if at any point during that experience gathering, he missed something or got killed, he would just reset the game and start over.

I watched this happen again and again, and being curious, I asked him why he did that. He explained that it was no use going on to fight the boss unless he was at full strength. The boss was just too tough.

Interesting….

I really started thinking about this and how it applies to Network Marketing, and I’ve noticed this same behavior in my life and the lives of others.

When things get tough and we think we can’t get past an obstacle, we quit and start over. We rarely push through. It’s easier to think we will do better “next time” or with a different opportunity, or a different system.

This is a real problem that we need to deal with. It holds us back. It wastes a lot of time. But how do we deal with it? What is the key to stop this behavior? I believe that key is to educate ourselves.

Many times we go into something totally blind and try to grope our way around thinking we can make it work without the knowledge of how it really does work. And when it doesn’t work the way we want, or think it should, we quit and put the blame on the company. “It was the company that didn’t work. It sucked.”

Maybe if we would take the time to learn “how” and “why” it worked, or even the opposite, why it “doesn’t” work, before jumping in head first, we’d have a fighting chance. There are some really good companies out there. There are also some really lousy ones too. And there are even ones that are out to cheat you. We all know it, so why don’t we take the time to educate ourselves to the point where we can spot these bad opportunities?

I suggest you find a coach or a mentor who has figured out all the little nuances and kinks. Find a system that is proven and works.

Learn how to evaluate companies. I can’t stress this enough. The more knowledge you have going into something, the far better you are able to handle those inevitable pitfalls that are going to show up. Or better yet, how to avoid that whole mess to begin with.

Now, that being said, should you stick with a company when it’s just not working, or one that no matter what you do, it won’t work?

Nope, not at all.

But before you jump ship, make sure you know what’s in the water. Make sure you know what that next ship is all about and how it works. Otherwise, you could find yourself in the exact same situation, and looking for the reset button.

Oh, and by the way, my son finally did beat that boss. His awesome Father googled how to do it, and found out some secrets and tricks to get it done.

Interesting how that works!

Until next time…

5 Network Marketing Secrets

Category : Network Marketing

There is no guarantee of success in Network Marketing. It takes Time, Practice, Patience, but most of all it takes a Commitment. If you do all those, along with the following 5 Secrets and integrate them into your strategy, and you’ll be that much closer to the success you desire and deserve. Let’s start the countdown:

Secret #5. This industry is simple, but it’s not easy!

When you first start out in Network Marketing, the concept seems so simple. Everyone needs to earn more money! Everyone needs your products to better their lives! But then reality sets in after you talk to a few people. Even though they “Need” your product and “Need” to make extra money, they just plain don’t want to. That’s normal. Look at it this way; You “Need” to get up early and exercise every day, but you don’t “Want” to and probably don’t. You “Need” to pay your taxes, but you don’t “Want” to. So the key is to just share your product or your opportunity and the people who “Want” to, will. Those who don’t, won’t. And that’s ok. Because when you think about it, you only want to work with the people who want to work with you. Only take the volunteers.

Secret #4. There are no overnight successes!

I can’t tell you how many people start in this industry thinking that they are going to be able to quit their jobs in a month and cruise the Caribbean the rest of their lives. Hey, I’m guilty of it too! But the reality of it is that success in Network Marketing takes time. You’re building a network. And building a solid network does not happen in a month. It doesn’t happen in a year. You really can’t put a timeframe on it. I know it’s very noncommittal, but it happens when it happens. Keep in mind that you’re working with individuals. The key word being individual here. They’re not just some circle in your downline. They’re human, and humans are unpredictable. They have their own speed and own ways of doing things. They have different confidence levels. They have different fears. Your job as a leader is to harness all those differences, and bring them together to form a team. A team working together to a common goal. Not an easy task by any stretch of the imagination. See why it takes time?

Secret #3. Until you learn the skills to succeed, you won’t!

I bet everyone just loved your presentation when you first started didn’t they? Wait a second… They didn’t? Why is that? You didn’t know what to say and do? Everything you said made you sound like a used car salesman? Really? Hmmmm. Maybe it’s because you needed to learn the skills of what to say and what to do so you bypass that “Salesman Filter” everyone has. This was one of the biggest problems I had when I first started. I had no clue what to say or how to say it. It seemed so easy when my upline did it. Now we’re tying back to Secret 5, it’s simple, but not easy. So what I’m going to say next is really going to tweak your brain. Once I learned exactly what to say, and how to say it, I had a hard time actually doing it. Why? Because it’s not natural. It’s not the way we speak normally. The key here is to speak to the way people listen, not to the way people, well, speak. That made all the difference in the world to my success, and it will to yours too.

Secret #2. Build your downline with Leaders, not just Distributors!

I’ve talked about this in previous posts. A big misconception in Network Marketing is that you need to go out and sponsor, sponsor, sponsor tons of people. That you need to become a sponsor monster. The problem with this method is that without the proper training and leaders in place, your team will do nothing and fall apart. The larger your team grows, the less leadership you have over it. It’s basically a law of time. You just can’t do everything yourself. You need leaders. Your job is to find those leaders or better yet, create those leaders. A lot of people are natural leaders, and will jump out of the pack. But there are countless other people who just need a little training to become great leaders. Find and train leaders, and your organization will become a well oiled machine.

Secret #1. Find and Use a duplicatable system!

Every day I come across someone who joined a Network Marketing Company only to be thrown out amongst the wolves to fend for themselves. This is usually due in part to Secret #4, lack of leadership. One of the main problems with having a team of any size, is that unless there is a system in place for people to follow, one that is duplicatable, everyone goes out doing their own thing and you end up with sporadic results, if you have results at all. I can’t stress this enough…. Find a Proven Duplicatable System. It will save you years of spinning your wheels trying new things, wondering why the people in your downline aren’t having success and your retention rate is low. A Proven Duplicatable System solves all these problems.

Well, there you have it. The 5 secrets I have learned since I started in Network Marketing. If you’d like to know more or discuss my list, just give me a call. My door is always open.

Facebook Tagging Debate

Category : Facebook

To Tag or Not To Tag, that is the question…

I currently have over 4900 friends on Facebook and receive about 10 to 20 friend requests a day. So about once a week, I gather up all the friends I made that week and send them my video welcoming them as a new friend and letting them know that I believe we can help each other with whatever it is we are seeking to do. I accomplish this “welcoming” by tagging them, or attaching their name to the video.

Apparently, this offends and angers some people. I personally don’t get why it does. It’s just a tag.

If you’re not familiar with Facebook Tagging, it’s similar to how Twitter does user names. You precede the person’s name with an @ symbol which “Tags” them in a video, note, status, or photo.

Twitter was originally intended as simply a place to say what you were doing. Now we use it as a means to communicate with each other. Twitter’s tagging feature originally wasn’t meant to @reply someone. But users started the trend and Twitter incorporated it. Users of the tool found new and different ways to use something outside of its original intention thus creating a better service. THAT is what has made Twitter so awesome.

In Facebook tagging is done pretty much the same way. It’s allowed people to share something with a targeted audience all at once. I think it’s brilliant and a huge time saver. My time is valuable. Any place I can save some time, I take advantage of it.

So with that being said, there are some people who really use the tagging feature unscrupulously. They have a video, post, note or photo pitching their network marketing company or product. And they tag people just to get them to see whatever it is that they are promoting. I believe this is a very wrong way to market, and I will be the first one to tell them so, but keep in mind that these are two very different methods of tagging.

Of course I’m not the ultimate judge in this, and I’m positive that there will be more criticism, but that’s ok. The world needs a Ying and a Yang. And honestly, sometimes no matter what someone does, be it with good intentions or bad, someone will not like it and complain. You just can’t please everyone.

Personally, I’m going to continue to tag my new friends in my welcome video because I see no harm in it. For every new friend that doesn’t like it, there are 3 or 4 who do. And as with every communication I engage in, it’s the ones who like it and respond that I concern myself with. I’ve left the negativity for someone else to worry about.

Tag Responsibly!

Target People Who Already Know & Love Network Marketing

Category : Leads, Target Marketing

Here’s a great Online Marketing Strategy for you to consider:

When you target people who don’t know anything about MLM, you’ll spend all your time trying to build them a dream, trying to convince them, trying to get them to believe the way you believe.

It’s kind of like religion. Let’s say you’re a Baptist and I’m a Catholic, and you want to convert me. Well, good luck! Why try to convert somebody? Just go find somebody who’s already in your religion, and talk to those people.

Otherwise, you’ll spend all your time trying to motivate somebody, trying to get them to have a dream … rather than building your business. When you work with people who don’t already understand MLM, there’s a good chance they’ll head down the road the wrong way. Often they’ve heard bad things, and that’s all they’ll focus on.

And so you spend ALL your time trying to change that person’s mind. It’s a waste of time. What you need to do is find somebody who already has the dream. Your life will go a lot easier.

To learn how to get qualified people who already know and love Network Marketing, and are searching for YOU and the VALUE that you can offer them, start by downloading our free eBook “Success In 10 Steps”:

The Right Frame of Mind

Category : Perspective

Let’s talk about perspective. More specifically, your time perspective.

What exactly does the word perspective mean? The Merriam-Webster dictionary provides many meanings for the word perspective, but the one that we are most concerned with is this, “The capacity to view things in their true relations or relative importance.”

Study after study have been done to determine if successful people “think” differently than unsuccessful people. Dr. Edward Banfield of Harvard University did one particular study of notable interest in the 1950s. Dr. Banfield wanted to know if there was a way to predict if someone was going to be successful or not. He studied and compared his findings against common beliefs regarding financial success.

The first question he asked was if it was education?

Nope.

Dr. Banfield found that the majority of people with good education actually did not do as well as a person without a lot of education.

The second question he asked was if it was due to intelligence.

Nope again.

He found that a majority of highly intelligent people tended to be poor and unable to make a living.

What about being born into a wealthy family?

Nope yet again.

Dr. Banfield found that many people born into wealthy families did worse financially than those born into poor families.

So, if financial success was not determined by any of the common belief factors, what could determine it?

Dr. Banfield concluded, based upon all his research, that the one thing that was more accurate in predicting success was a person’s time perspective. He defined it as “the amount of time you take into consideration when planning your day-to-day activities and when making important decisions in your life.

In other words, putting off satisfying yourself today in order to satisfy yourself in the future.

Interesting.

In my own life, this has been one of the hardest things to overcome. I’m the type of person who wants it now. I’ve used the excuse that I work hard for my money and I deserve to buy what I want, when I want. It made me feel like I was in control of my life and my spending habits.

The problem with adopting this perspective, is that I ended up living paycheck to paycheck and not being able to wait until the next time I got paid. So what I would do is either charge things or borrow money from friends.

How ridiculous is that? I was already in the hole before I even got paid. Ultimately, I owed everyone else and never had the money I needed to buy what I wanted anyway.

It’s a vicious downward spiral.

Can you relate to this? I would pretty much bet some of you are in the same situation. So how do we stop this vicious cycle?

We stop it by what’s called Delayed Gratification.

If you truly want to be financially free, and who doesn’t, you must absolutely master this concept.

Delay your immediate pleasure and think about the future. Stop thinking about what you want for today, and start thinking about what you want for the rest of your life. God willing, you will have many, many more todays, but soon you’ll find yourself running out of them, and then it will be too late.

Stop yourself before you buy that CD or DVD. Stop yourself before you eat out at that expensive restaurant. Stop yourself before you buy that extra pair of pants or the 25th pair of shoes.

Stop and ask yourself the following questions,

  • Do I really need this?
  • Is this item worth more to me than my financial freedom?
  • How would I feel if I took this money and invested it instead?
  • Would I be better off with it, or without it?

If you do that, you’ll feel better than you can ever imagine. Do it consistently, and you will find that something amazing will happen. You’ll start to walk taller. You’ll feel stronger and more secure. You’ll have pride knowing that you now have real control. You’ll have control over yourself, not just control over your money.

So let me give you a challenge.

Go out right now and open a brand new savings account. Call the account “The Financial Freedom Account” Make a vow to yourself that you will use this account only for building your financial future. Do not spend the money in this account for anything.

During the next 30 days, stop yourself before every purchase and ask yourself the questions stated above. It’s going to be hard, but so is living in poverty every day for the rest of your life.

Once you have decided to stop yourself from purchasing needless items, take the money you were going to use to buy them, and immediately deposit that money directly into your Financial Freedom Account. Do this for 30 days and you will be amazed at how much you can accumulate.

Then do it for another 30 days, and then another. Soon this little exercise will turn into a habit and you will do it automatically without even thinking about it.

At the end of each 30-day period, you’ll receive the bank statement that shows all your determination and control. This is the time to celebrate! It’s the time to realize that you are in control and you don’t just think about today, you think about tomorrow, and your future.

Financial Freedom only comes when you stop thinking about your immediate wants, and start thinking about your ultimate wants.

This exercise is not so much about gaining interest (since we know most banks are paying lousy interest rates anyway) It’s about being in control of yourself and your spending. It’s taking your life back.

Plus, in a future article, I’ll show you a much more powerful investment you can make with that money you’re saving.

Again, this is worth repeating; Living in poverty the rest of your life is much worse than sacrificing a needless possession just to feel good right now. If you think about it, it’s really about investing in yourself. What better investment can you make?

You can do this… I know you can!

How To Make Facebook Kinda Funny!

Category : Social Media

Here is one of my favorite Facebook tricks and if you are a fan of “Pirates” it will become yours too. Instead of seeing “Share with friends” you can see “Blabber t’ yer mates” and other pirate words/phrases.

Basically, to make Facebook communicate with you in old Pirate Language, Simply go to your Current Language Settings (located at the bottom of the page) and click the language as English (Pirate).

Another trick you can do along the same vein is select English (Upside Down). It’s a novelty, but it’s annoying after awhile.

If you know any others interesting tips/tricks related to Facebook, please feel free to share in the comment box below.

A Story of Negativity and Blame!

Category : Responsibility

The other day I was sitting in a cafe with my wife having a nice breakfast when we overheard a lady a few tables over chatting with someone across the aisle from her.

I was quite impressed. Obviously she was comfortable talking to people she didn’t know. She was very articulate and communicated well. I thought she would be a great person to have on my team.

As I continued to listen in on her conversation, (I know, that’s bad of me), she explained that she was writing a screenplay about a troubled youth and the education system. I thought it was an interesting idea.

Then everything changed. She started saying how she just knew it would never be made into a movie. She didn’t have the funds and nobody would ever buy it. She blamed the government, the movie industry and even the healthcare industry!

She went on and on with the excuses why it won’t work and why she was in the financial situation that she was, and why her health wasn’t the best.

I was floored! She started off with such a bang, then withered and died right before my eyes!

I’m telling you this story because that lady with her negativity and blaming really hit home with me.

I used to be just like her. I blamed the lack in my life on everyone and everything else.

It took me a very long time to change my beliefs. About a year ago I finally realized that I was the cause of most of my failures. Either because I didn’t believe in what I was doing, or better yet, I didn’t believe in myself.

That’s a hard thing to discover and really understand.

But once I stopped blaming others and stopped constantly thinking negative thoughts, things changed for me. There is a major power in accepting responsibility for everything that happens in your life. You come to realize that if something isn’t right, you have the power to change it.

During those times at the beginning of my Network Marketing Career when things weren’t working and I felt like quitting, I found myself starting to fall back into that negative, blaming frame of mind. I started to blame the system, blame the industry and even blaming the lazy, un-motivated prospects for why I wasn’t succeeding.

Luckily I realized what was happening and quickly re-evaluated the situation. It was me the whole time. I wasn’t working the system. I wasn’t embracing the industry. I hadn’t learned the skills necessary to talk to prospects. So by quitting, I would be quitting on me, not the company or my sponsors.

I’ve quit on myself too many times in the past. I was through doing that. So I re-engaged. I applied myself. I studied. I worked the system. And you know what? I’m succeeding. And I’m proud. Really proud. I’ve entered into new territory and it feels damn good! I will never go back to that way of thinking. It just doesn’t work.

So needless to say I didn’t talk to that lady about my opportunity. I don’t need that kind of negativity in my team nor in my life. I know that at the first sign of a setback, she’ll quit and blame me or the company, or whatever!

My only hope is that one day she figures it out.
